Youth Team Leaders
After-School Tutoring
Students are provided with a safe place to come and spend time in a positive manner by learning to play team sports. Bilingual youth leaders and workers help to make sure that the students understand how to play and help teach good sportsmanship and build community.
This program grants students access to an outlet for their creativity in various forms such as dance, music and drama. Students will learn to appreciate their own culture as well as explore American culture, and be able to display their talents in performances for friends, family and community.
Students are given a chance to lead other peer members in familiarizing themselves with the area, and with information about New York City. Students will also participate in workshops on leadership skills that will help their overall confidence and self-esteem.
Students are encouraged to participate in office work, enabling them to learn valuable skills that are needed in the work force. Students are trained how to write resumes, cover letters, and how to participate in interviews.
Tutoring is available for immigrant students in basic English and Math skills. This Enables students with limited English speaking skills to catch up with the native English speaking students in their classroom, and to keep up with students at the same level. Students are helped with their homework and other assignments by teaching aides and vulunteers.
From late June to early September, child care is provided for children ages 5-18 from Monday through Friday, 8:30am-6:00pm.
